Scrafty (Pokémon) September 2010
There are 649 different Pokémon now (2011), which is very unsettling. We used to think 150 was a lot? That's practically the increment they're using!
Out of all the new ones they're using, this guy stands out to me. It's a lizard with a mohawk and baggy skinpants that headbutts people... and he doesn't afraid of anything. That's almost too much cool for one Pokémon! (That must be why they gave him a baby form. Huh.)

Little Pilkins March 2010
Take your overweight toddler son. Sit him on your knee. Tell him that his family descended from vikings and give him the family helmet. Your son is Little Pilkins.
By this point, it had been a while since my last 'new' character. He's been a welcome part of the roster since, adorning notes, doodled glaring at other characters, and was a part of a 3D short. I'm looking into getting him into some form of video game soon enough (2010)!
|
Xra December 2009
Xra is by and far my oldest character. He was conceived in 2000 and has been redesigned again and again since. He's not done yet either. He probably should've been scrapped years ago, but I'll keep working on his design until I'm satisfied.
That said, his story has been somewhat consistent. Xra is a survivor of the Bladian race. He was raised by a retired ringmaster and came to save the Earth at an early age. As an adult, he is long forgotten. He runs a "vigilante" freak-catching business to keep things in order. When the governing authorities threaten to take complete control over the planet, Xra must step up to them and save Earth like he did long ago!

DETH June 2009
DETH is a main character in Dwah Federico. He's busy, he's belittling, and he's... all powerful. There's no way to stop DETH. I mean, you can run, but DETH's gonna catch you eventually.
During Dwah Federico's pre-production, it had occurred to me where the DETH inspiration came from: a flash cartoon called Death Kitty and the Fat Man. I talked to the animator (swell person!) and everything's all cool now.

Hero 8 April 2009
This character doesn't seem so special. When I thought of her, I turned the idea into a quick sprite, which only served to make the concept that much more ridiculous.
8 was valiant warrior of justice long before the concept of justice came into being. She always did what was right, and her people revered her. However, all good things must come pass...
8 did not agree with that. Through the years, she did everything to keep herself alive, from black magic to the eventual cybernetic transformation. She does it so that she can continue to preserve justice, but in doing so, she brought about the destruction of each successive civilization.
So what we're looking at is a deep anti-hero in what could be a convoluted and possibly interesting plot. Put that into a low res, run-and-gun game with little to no dialogue. The game could play well or badly, but it's still got this great story, right? Is it still a good game?
Food for thought.

Federico October 2008
Conceived around the time of Tak Cha Kwat, redesigned by Tïny the Mudskipper's appearance, and then redesigned again late 2008, Federico is the latest oldie to break the scene. Like the other redesigns, the main purpose was to trim down and streamline the original design into something more appealing. He now serves as the lead hero of Dwah Federico (check the Games section!)
"Federico was a normal guy from Barcelona. He had friends, a steady job, a nice little house, and good health. He enjoyed cooking, watching Football, going out to clubs; in general, he simply enjoyed life. While he had never accomplished anything noteworthy, he was content. At least that's what he told himself.
While walking home from the grocery store, Federico suddenly dropped dead."

Amigo (Samba De Amigo) March 2008
I don't know how the question came up, but at some point it was wondered what Amigo would look like in a Sonic style. It meant losing the block head... but ultimately? I could see him in a modern footrace Sonic game.
DON'T STOP SMILING

Mr. Danger Revisited January 2008
As time went on, my character Mr. Danger slowly (but surely) developed. He lost many of his Samson-esque locks, gained a little more common sense, and took on an apprentice in the ancient art of Funk.
This is probably my favorite attempt at Sonic style to date (2010). There probably won't be many more from me if any, but it was great practice at making character art.

Khanus and Fuu November 2007
Khanus is based on a character I played with in D&D. He was an elf wizard with a skin condition (since we weren't allowed to play with Drow) who enjoyed drinking and dagger-ing things a lot. He also had a weasel familiar called Fuu, which was tossed at unsuspecting foes before being dagger'd to death.
I've since toned down the character a bit. He's still an elf with a condition, but now he's questing to save the world in some shape or form before succumbing to this condition and dying without accomplishing anything. He's being thrown into an interesting gameplay concept, too. I hope to start working on it sometime soon (2010).

Wedge the Golem September 2007
This picture is a redesign of a character constructed around the same time as Tak Cha Kwat and Stunt the Puck. The purpose was to streamline his appearance and make him look cooler. Considering the old one, I'd say it was a success.
Wedge was constructed for war a long time ago. Now he lives in uneasy peace, abandoned in a forest. Should his new home ever be threatened, he'll protect it the only way he knows how: with rocket launchers.

Zembull September 2007
Zembull was actually sketched out by my friend Joel when we were working on the game "Some Semblii Required." It's sad that the project kind of died with a wimper, but it helped to flesh out Semblii's world and add some characters to the fray. I ended up digitizing the sketch into this.
Zembull was actually the original Semblii model sent out to stop the head machine in the robot revolution. He was thought to be destroyed in the mission, when in fact he was reconstructed by the head machine to fight against the humans. The current Semblii is forced to fight him on numerous occasions. But you must wonder: how do you defeat a bigger, stronger, and better version of yourself?
|
Semblii August 2007
Totally not Gir I have no idea what you're talking about
Inspiration just struck one day and then he appeared in a blaze of glory. He was a modular character I could take liberties with and try out new ideas. Yup. Semblii's my baby.
Semblii's a part of a series of hit children's toys created by Professor Karamel. Her rival, Doctor Choc, agitated by the toy's success, went ahead and constructed a machine with a greater capacity than the human brain. Not too long afterward, this leads to a robot revolution that would seal mankind's fate... unless Kara and Semblii can stop it!

3D Oins June 2007
I fooled around in Blender for a little while. Now, while I still can't say I'm all that great at 3D modeling/animation (2010), These guys turned out to be pretty decent recreations of their 2D incarnation.
They're creepy! They're adorable! They're adoreepy!
|
Bixler February 2007
There's no reason for Bixler to exist... yet. The character was constructed to be a medium sized character along with Stunt the Puck and Armice the Armadillo. Period. No other reason.
However, there's a concept in the pipeline for a detective duo that explore all the aspects of society in the New Earth universe. He might just get recycled into that.
Until then, he's just a fuzzy something with shades, man.

`Da Pin January 2007
If it wasn't obvious, `Da Pin, or Julian Thaddeus Buzz, was another Sonic fan character. However, I grew attached to the idea and turned him into a recurring villain in my own works. Now he serves as Xra's foil baddy, best friends on different sides of the moral coin.
This panda is mean. To officials, he's a powerful bank owner with a spotless record. To the streets, he's a fearless kingpin who'd punch out your lights if you stuttered. To Xra, he's just a big fatty who has a yelling problem.

Tïny the Mudskipper November 2006
Tïny is a member of the Scarab Sect.. Thanks to his water filtering technology, he is able to subsist on the land in the desert with the rest of the misguided followers. There really isn't much more to Tïny, but I'm sure he'll make for a good meat-head boss or something.
|
August August 2006
August was created in August? WOW.
August is a part of the main trio I've been developing for years now. As a lonely child, he followed Xra and slowly became one of his smart-mouthed, traveling companions. With his almost unrealistic knack for computers and machinery, August tends to have an answer for every situation.
He and his brother Teego have a longstanding rivalry, which really heat up in robotics competitions. They, along with Kyro the Kangaroo, and Professor Terran are notable regulars, guaranteed to cause a spectacle.
... He might look better with bowl-cut.

Klept the Hybrid July 2006
As I visited this Sonic site and hung out with its other members, I slowly got into the Sonic art style. Bold highlights bring out colorful characters in ridiculous poses. Extreme cool.
Klept was a chao that absorbed a lone Artificial Chaos unit, producing a being that was not unlike Chaos 0 with the brain of a housecat. The concept gave way to some interesting potential, including ability extreme transformations and some other stuff.
Also his pose is the same as Mario's on the cover of Mario Kart DS.

Mr. Danger June 2006
I was involved with a fun Sonic the Hedgehog site that fueled my horrible disease of making characters and involving them in stories. This was my second character in that group and possibly my favorite of them all.
"If it wasn’t evident already, Mr. Danger is the ultimate disco king. This pooch lives for the music and the boogie. Luckily, he has time to dance all he wants without the need for a job or anyone to tell him otherwise. Thanks to a very wealthy inheritance, the pink puff has enough money to live off of up to his death with enough to spare for the best in funk. [...]Mr. Danger (as he now calls himself) now intends to be a groovalicious secret agent, intent on living a life of action and… danger. He figures that everyone should be able to live safe to party on to their heart’s content. With this newly found profession, the cool canine expects to not only assist others, but to keep his life interesting. Expect him to still keep the beat alive, even when he’s “on duty”."

Vasquéz the Titanic Pelican May 2006
The idea of a gigantic, godzilla-sized pelican started with a doodle of King Pelican. It eventually turned into Vasquéz, the last bird of his kind. The pelican has his own transport service and will gladly fly anyone and anything on a very simple condition: No technology.
The main goal with this character was an aircraft with a personality and an excuse for a giant monster fight. Hoooo, do I have plans for this character, including a redesign and his own game concept(2010). We'll see what comes of that.
|

Blank-Blank May 2006
You can come up with some extremely different character concepts based on how you're feeling that day. This little bundle of joygoo was doodled at the end of Algebra II. He was created out of the pure happiness that comes from being done with a class. Since then, he's always a go to doodle when I'm feeling happy.
The character itself was fabricated by August and his brother Teego. Blank-Blank's core grows and expands, shaping his form dramatically as he feeds. The question is... will Blank-Blank ever be Full-Full?
|
Calafoto April 2006
I don't remember when this was made or for what reason, but it makes me happy. It's a sea turtle chillin' in a blue void just bro-in' out.
Not to mention his shell is a soccer ball. Double cool.
|
Teeny Berry Potential April 2006
Another large sketch experiment. This time, I played off of Teeny Berry's true power. He may be enfeebled and short, but he is still the demon people once came to fear.
... Also the shading on the knife came out pretty neat.
|
Stunt Dynamics March 2006
Woah. Atmosphere.
So this was one of few experiments involving very very large paper and scanning in work. I guess the sketchy, edgy look seemed a bit more kinetic than clean lines, and who else but Stunt could represent locomotion?
|
Teego March 2006
Teego was created when our biology teacher was absent to get surgery done. None of us in the class knew what it was specifically for, so our imaginations took the better of us. "What if he's getting his leg amputated!?" "Maybe he'll be rebuilt!" "Cyborg!" Now Teego is a biomechanic who's amassed a roster of cyborgs to enter into robotic competitions.
Looking through old artwork like this makes me both chuckle and shudder. He's a fun idea, but ghghghghghgh...
|

Xion March 2006
Holy crap a human(oid)! Xion was actually created by one of my best friends waaaaay back when Xra was first conceived. Both characters are Bladians... essentially alien elves with metal bone structures. Xion is an illegitimate child of royalty who wanted to prove to his half-brother that lineage means nothing towards ability!
Although said brother would probably agree with him if they weren't fighting all the time.
|
Nace the Vulture February 2006
There's this weird motion thing going on here. Considering his cig is burning straight up, nothing about it makes sense. Oh well.
Nace was created simply because I hadn't really created many villains at that point. He's a one eyed bounty hunter who hides various sharp things in his torn and ruffled wings. There's definitely something in here that could get worked into a well-rounded concept.
|
Bo-Bo-Bomb January 2006
I'm honestly not sure where this idea came from.
A drunk teddy bear boxer.
Nonetheless he's a part of the roster. Recently (2010), I've played around with other boxing concepts and ideas which could very well lead into a full game somewhere down the road. Let's get some titles out there first though!
|
Oin January 2006
Oins were born out of the pure stress that comes from learning of last minute lab reports. It's expression is reminiscent of the one I had when it was conceived. The worry was worth it though; the Oin is one of my favorite characters to doodle when I'm bored.
Oins are a sentient species of onion born without eyelids. They are threatening to overpopulate THE WORLD.
|
Varrg the Puck January 2006
When you create a race of creatures, there has to be more than one creature in the race. So to join Stunt, I created Varrg. Like Stunt, Varrg uses a refined mineral ore to break the current laws of physics, in this case giving him abilities not unlike telekinetics.
Also Varrg CAN talk, but he speaks too fast for anyone to understand. Oh well.
|

Pengo December 2005
Pengo started out as Reddils, a secret agent penguin with a mirror belly. Now he's a cyborg that likes racing. How did it come to this? No clue, but Pengo's been a popular character in the roster.
|
Kyro the Kangaroo October 2005
My friend Jack told me to draw a Kangaroo one day...so I did. Kyro's a mechanic with a long standing rivalry with my other character, Teego. He makes robots and doesn't afraid of anything.
|
Trueberry May 2005
As work began to make Teeny Berry less of a fan character and more of an original character, I slapped together a backstory along the lines of 'Greater demon becomes lesser demon because magic is hax.' This led to Trueberry's inception. He doesn't have much of an inspired design, but he's fun to look at. Also, lens flare.
|
The Macabee May 2005
He's a candy cane for dogs!
The Macabee was originally made for a little comic series my friends and I were playing with in junior high waaaaaay back when. He was a humanoid monster bee that could pilot a mech... Quite frankly, the material wrote for itself. Now, he's more of a guardian figure for his hive, living only to defend others. He's a cool looking character, but eeeeeeew! What was I thinking back then? Those proportions are disgusting!
|
Ash (Phantom Brave) April 2005
I was (and still am) a huge Disgaea fan. That includes all the side-universe games that go with it. Not only is the gameplay incredibly fun, but the characters are all unique (at least in design). Ash here is a scarfed phantom whose main goal is protecting the main character, Marona. A ghostly guardian? A see-through spirit? A really cool character.
|

Teeny Berry March 2005
Well, this is familiar. Teeny Berry started out as a sprite edit to make a cute looking tonberry. This eventually devolved into something a little more demonic. Yes, this is still within the realm of fan character, but there is slow progress being made to rectify the problem. An ancient, homicidal pygmy is just too much fun to give up so quickly.
|
Stunt the Puck February 2005
Stunt came about after witnessing a group of traveling mimes and a bunch of scratch spriting. He's a puck (basically a goblin) with an inability to speak and a super ability to have massive amounts of momentum for a little speck of force. It had fun inspiration, was a fun concept, and let me play around with hard highlights. Good stuff.
|
Tak Cha Kwat February 2005
Looking beyond spriting and various experiments in MSPaint and Paint Shop Pro, this is one of my first CG pictures. Tak Cha is a badass bug with hair... for some reason. He started as a cool little doodle in my notebook and has been a part of the roster ever since.
